Lt. Col. Charles Robert Key KCPD, Ret.
Charles Robert Key, LT. COL KCPD RET., a Northland resident of Kansas City, MO passed away Monday, March 6, 2017, at the age of 74. He was born July 18, 1942 in Boonville to Sneed and Ola (McCoy) Key. Charlie graduated high school in Boonville; earned his BA in Criminal Justice from Central Missouri State University and earned his MA in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Michigan. Charlie was an ordained minister through ACTS Ministry. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. Charlie was a dedicated 30 year employee of the KCPD, where he retired in 1994, earning the rank of Deputy Chief. He also served in the Missouri National Guard, where he earned the rank of Master Sergeant. Survivors include his wife, Rev. Christine Tucker-Key of Kansas City, MO; two daughters, Michelle Renee Mould (Warren) and Rachel Lynne Hakes (William); two step-daughters, Sarah Anderson (Aaron) and Kathleen Gilbert (Tim); his mother-in-law, Ruth Tucker and Christine's aunt, Elnora Tucker; one granddaughter, Shelby Lynne Hakes; and four step-grandchildren, Zach Anderson, Nate Anderson, Allie Gilbert and Abby Gilbert. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, Melissa J. Key. A memorial service celebrating Charlie's life was held March 10, 2016 at the Liberty United Methodist Church, 1001 Sunset Ave., Liberty, MO 64068, with Rev. Rod Kelly officiating. A committal service followed at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions are suggested to KCPD Care Team or to the Parkinson's Association.
