It is with heavy, but relieved hearts, to announce the passing of Charles "Skip" Hohle. Skip passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 24th, 2015, after over a yearlong battle with Dementia. Skip was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Shirley Hohle. Skip was the 2nd oldest of 6 children, Sandy Skip, Sheila, Janet, Scott and Roger. Skip was a United States Marine Corps Vietnam veteran. During his tour of duty, he received numerous medals including a Combat Action Medal and a Presidential Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps as a Sergeant in 1969. Shortly thereafter Skip and Shirley gave birth to their first child, Douglas C. Hohle. About 2 years after their Sons birth they moved from Iowa to Las Cruces, New Mexico where they took root. Skip then continued his education at New Mexico State University where he received a degree in Psychology. Before his tour in Vietnam, Skip also majored in Physics. Skip and Shirley then gave birth to their 2nd child, Tiffany Elizabeth Hohle in 1979. After a short career in the medical field at Memorial General Hospital (now Memorial Medical Center) as an orderly, Skip found his dream job in the United States Postal Service as a mail sorter. We say dream job because he worked in the back at the Main Las Cruces branch sorting mail, and didn't have to deal with people so much. Skip and Shirley were almost permanent fixtures at their favorite watering hole "Jose Murphy's" where they touched hundreds if not thousands of lives over many decades. Everyone who knew Skip and Shirley probably has a Skip and Shirley story to tell. And, it probably involved Shirley yelling at Skip to be quiet. Skip and Shirley did come to know and love 2 grandchildren, Adam Douglas Ellingson and Grace Elizabeth Hohle. Skip was cremated at his request.
