Charles C. Barr Jr.
Charles C. Barr, Jr Born: January 28, 1942 Died: October 5, 2016 Charles "Chuck" C. Barr, Jr., 74, of McHenry, passed away on October 5, 2016. He was born on January 28, 1942 in Chicago. After serving his country as a member of the U.S. Army, Chuck married the love of his life Judy, on May 12, 1973 in Roselle. Chuck and Judy have spent the last 41 years in the McHenry area. Many in the community will remember Chuck as quiet and reserved, keeping a close circle throughout his life. For Judy, their boys, and their grandkids, they were blessed to have experienced so much more of him. He shared many lessons, not through words, but through the way he lived his life: Be proud of your family. Love your kids courageously enough to let them paint their shoes in rainbows, pierce their cartilage and bleach their hair, and not punish the newly minted driver for the obvious damage to the car hood which is shaped like a mailbox but he claims he knows nothing about. Always let them try. When they fail, teach. Be a subtle guardrail not forcing them down a specific path, yet guiding them away from peril. Be a good person. Marry your best friend. Be punctual, but don't rush. Work hard. Keep an eye on your neighbor's house. Live within your means. Use your wit. Wear your private pants with pride. DIY. Organize the shopping cart. Pre-clean the dishes before the dishwasher. Check the oil and fill the tires. Cut the chip bag in half to save your sleeves. Never waste a Coke. Take pride in your yard. Fly the flag. Play catch. Read the newspaper. Eat supper as a family. Be the master of the remote, but always willing to watch Frozen. Be loyal. Be reliable. Be strong. And, love the Cubs! Chuck's strong-will and kind-heart will live on through his loved ones. He is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Judy; his sons, Ryan (Jodi), Tyler (Rebecca), and Adam (Tracy) Barr; his eight grandchildren, Collin, Emma, Charlotte, Mayson, Owen, Jackson, Lucy, and Tyson; his sisters-in-law, Gail (the late Jack) Williams and Lynne (Tom) Connolly; his brother-in-law, Mike (Kate) Altman; his sister-in-law, Jan Moshure; and many nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his son, Matthew, in 1989; his brother-in-law, Jack; his brother-in-law, George; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Altman; and his parents. Services and visitation were for immediate family only and private. The cremation rite was accorded privately. Time is the most precious resource. In lieu of flowers or donations, please honor Chuck's memory by spending time with the ones you love or volunteer to spend your time with those in need. Services were entrusted to Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, McHenry. For information, call the funeral home at 815-385-2400.
