CHARLES L. ALLEN
Charles Linwood Allen departed this life on Friday, October 14, 2016, at his residence at 1818 Stewart Avenue, Hopewell, Va. Charles A.K.A. "Sonny" Allen was born July 30, 1935, in Prince George County. He attended Harrison Grove Elementary School and was a member of Mount Hope Baptist Church. Charles "Sonny" Allen was a man of few words. But when he spoke people respected his words; and he commanded the attention of those who listened. He lived his life by a code of integrity, honor, respect and leaves a legacy of hard work, self-sufficiency, and love that will live on in each of his children and grandchildren. Charles retired from Aqualon Industrial after 23 years of service in 1987 and then from the Hopewell Public School System in 1997. Charles "Sonny" Allen was proceeded in death by his parents, James and Sadie Allen; grandmother whom raised him, Cora Peterson; three sisters, Roxie McClain, Daisy Brown and Freida Sales; four brothers, Robert Lee, Lloyd G., Leroy and George Allen. He Leaves to cherish his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Earline Agnes Allen; four sons, Eugene (Cathy) of Richmond, Va., Charles Haywood of Hopewell, Kern Lee (Gloria) and Marcus Maurice (Hester), both of Prince George, Va.; two daughters, Carolyn Delorse of Prince George, Va., and Denise Randall of Hopewell, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Allen of Prince George, Va., and Frances Allen of Baltimore, Md.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; devoted grandsons, Brandon Randall of Hopewell, Va., and Marcus Allen Jr.; devoted nephew, Lloyd Allen (Francine) of Richmond, Va.; three devoted friends, George Williams, Homer Crockett and Joseph Walton; and host of nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and many friends. Special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, Southside Regional Medical Center and John Randolph Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at the chapel of Bland & Tucker Funeral Home, 137 Harrison Street, Petersburg. Dr. Linwood James officiating. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park, Chester. Arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of Bland & Tucker Funeral Home, Petersburg.
