LANCASTER – Mrs. Charlene Gainor Canterbury, 78, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, at her home. She was born July 8, 1938, in Lancaster, the daughter of the late John Roddey Gainor and Evelyn Bessie McMurray Gainor. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Ronald Wayne Hunter, who died while serving in the U.S. Army in 1967, and her second husband of 48 years, Marvin Gene Canterbury. Mrs. Canterbury was in Avon sales for 44 years. She loved to travel, especially Gatlinburg, Tenn., taking pictures, dancing, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted Gamecocks fan, following both football and baseball, and loved the Dallas Cowboys. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, teaching Sunday school for many years. Mrs. Canterbury is survived by her children, Teresa Willis and her husband, David, Tim Hunter and his wife, Joy, and Karen Hunter Owens and her husband, Mike; five grandchildren, Brandi McBain and her husband, Brett, Amber Smith and her husband, Wes, Daulton Willis, Erika Willis and Crystal Christopher and her husband, Ryan; and six great-grandchildren, Alicia Huffman, Skylar Huffman, Nick Smith, Marissa Smith, Gabriel McBain and Colton Christopher. The celebration of life funeral service for Mrs. Canterbury is 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Randy Hatcher and Dr. Harold Owens. Burial will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church; and suggest in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Regency Hospice, 420 S.
