In memory of
Cathy Rain Smith 1955-2017 "For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my sister, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you." Philemon 1:7 "Everyone wants happiness, nobody wants pain, but you can't have a rainbow without a little rain." – Author Unknown Cathy Rain Smith ("GoGo," "Cathy Ann," "Beast") fought the brave fight, and earned her eternal life with Christ in Heaven on Saturday, January 7, 2017. Cathy was born in Houston, Texas on June 14, 1955, to Edwin and Sara Ann Rain. She attended UT-Austin where she was a Tri-Delt and earned a degree in Elementary Education. During college she met and later married the love of her life and husband of 37 years, Forrest M. Smith III. She taught school for 3 years until the birth of her first child. Cathy's first and highest priority in life was loving and giving time to her children, husband and friends. Cathy was an artist at heart, and during her years at home raising her children she painted, sculpted and designed both adult and children's dresses which were sold under the labels Vestidos, Macaroni & Cheese and DOTS. Cathy loved her friends unconditionally, and maintained an enduring devotion to her husband and children: Whitney Rain Smith Laird and husband, Adam Wade Laird, son, Forrest M. Smith IV, and two grandsons, Adam Williams ("Wills") Laird and Andrew Wade Laird. Cathy is survived by her two brothers and their spouses, Tommy and June Rain and Dick and Nancie Rain, three sets of in-laws, Madison and Cathy Smith, Alexine and Peter Graves and Harriet and Mike Fanning, and 13 nieces and nephews. Cathy's family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, physicians assistants, nurses and staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center, who provided compassionate and loving care throughout her four year battle with inflammatory breast cancer. Cathy's life and unique, loving spirit will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay in Houston, Texas, with Dr. Jim Jackson and Dr. John Stephens officiating.
