Catherine "Cathy" Sontheim Hall CHARLESTON - Catherine "Cathy" Sontheim Hall of Charleston passed away on March 15, 2017. Cathy was born the second of five children in Lyons, New York to Max and Frances Sontheim on October 26, 1919. At the age of 14 she graduated as the valedictorian from Lyons High School. At the age of 18 she graduated as the valedictorian of Ithaca College. She received her Masters in Music from Syracuse University where, on her last day at school, she met her future husband Robert "Bob" Hall in the lunch line. Bob quite wisely offered her a ride home and the rest as they say is happy family history. Cathy and Bob were married on June 26, 1947 in Lyons, New York on her family farm. They were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsford, New York. Cathy was a virtuoso of the piano and retired music teacher from the Pittsford Central School District in Pittsford, New York where she taught for many years. Cathy is survived by her sister, Eleanor Vogt and by her brother, Russell Sontheim (Edna) of Lyons, New York; by her daughters Judy Hall Bowler (John) of Charleston, South Carolina and Carol Hall Thomas (Mark) of Alpharetta, Georgia, and by her grandchildren, Lindsey Hall Thomas (Ben), Robert Thomas (Lauren), Jonathan Thomas, Bryant P. Bowler and Catherine Hall Bowler. Cathy is preceded in death by her parents Max and Frances, by her beloved husband, Robert and also by her sisters, Ruth Malone and Marion Blowers. Cathy served as an inspiration to countless people. She will forever be remembered and cherished by her family and friends.
