In memory of
Engelbert, Catherine 8/27/1925 - 10/14/2016 Saline, Michigan Catherine (Kay Steiner) Engelbert, age 91, passed away at home on October 14, 2016. She was born August 27, 1925 in East Moline, Illinois. She had a twin sister, Mickey (Marie). Their older brother, Lawrny (Lawrence), was a strong father figure in their lives. Both siblings preceded her in death. She grew up near Chicago and in northern Michigan near Boyne City and Deer Lake, and then in Ann Arbor. In 1943 she became a World War II "Rosie", working at the Willow Run Bomber Plant. Her petite 4'10" frame allowed her to climb into the wings of the B-24 bombers to lay electrical wiring. She met Ollie (Oliver) Steiner at a dance at the Masonic Temple in Ann Arbor. They were married on August 10, 1946, in the garden of the Michigan League. They moved to Saline where they raised three children and were active members of St. Paul United Church of Christ. She was a Sunday School teacher, Cub Scouts den mother, 4-H Club leader, member of the Saline Jaycee Auxiliary, and volunteer at Saline Community Hospital and St. Paul United Church of Christ. After Ollie retired they loved travel-trailering throughout the United States with friends. After 42 years of marriage, Ollie preceded her in death on October 22, 1988. After a short courtship, on February 17, 1990, she married Dennis Engelbert and moved to the Chelsea area where she joined St. Thomas Lutheran Church. They shared almost 20 years of marriage and a combined family of 7 children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dennis preceded her in death in November, 2009. After his death she returned to Saline and re-joined St. Paul United Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons, Lawrny (Sharron) Steiner of Saline and Jim (Sue) Steiner of Whitmore Lake; one daughter, Jane (Kevin) Berasley of Pittsfield Township; four grandchildren, Dawn (Matt) Elandt, Joe Steiner, and Kayla and Tim Berasley; two great-grandsons, Beck and Abe Elandt; step-children John Engelbert, Janet (Ray) Feldkamp, Doug (Nancy) Engelbert, and Marlene (Bernie) Roulo; 11 step-grandchildren; and several step-great grandchildren. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Saline. The family asks that donations be made in her name to St. Paul United Church of Christ or a charity of your choice.
