Carroll Duane Hord MARION: Carroll Duane Hord 83, of Marion OH, passed away Saturday October 8, 2016, at his home surrounded by family. He was born October 7, 1933 in Mt. Gilead OH to Zona Audrey (Myers) and Ralph E. Hord. Carroll graduated in 1951 from Mt. Gilead High School and served his country with honor in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He married Dixie (Thew) on December 21, 1961 and they were happily married for almost 55 years. Prior to retiring in 1981, Carroll was the co-owner of Hord Oil, Inc. distributing fuel for decades. As an avid reader, many times he would read a book in a day. Carroll had special love for dogs, birds and other animals. He enjoyed yard work, gardening and helping Dixie in the kitchen and with various household tasks. In his younger years, he liked to travel with his wife and daughters and to visit family and friends. His precious grandsons became the focus of his love and attention in his later years. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gene and Dale, and grandsons, Christopher Deron and Cody Duane Hume. Carroll is survived by his wife, two daughters, Cara Hume (Chris) of Beavercreek OH, Teri Hall of Bellbrook OH, five grandsons, Corey Dylan, Carson Duane and Carter Deron Hume, and Austin Christopher and Riley Andrew Hall; several nieces and nephews; and his grand-dogs. There will be a private service to celebrate his life at the convenience of the family.
