CAROLYN PETRIE Carolyn Wise Petrie passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, after a three-and-one-half-year battle with cancer. She was born May 9, 1945, to Troy Vernon Cox II and Jean McFarland Cox in Baltimore, where her father was completing his residency at Johns Hopkins University. Carolyn attended St. Anne's Catholic School as well as Porterville High School. Upon graduation from high school, Carolyn attended UCLA, where she received a bachelor's degree and teaching credentials in just over three years. She worked as a special education teacher, was employed at Xerox Corporation and eventually became a residential real estate agent. In the early 1970's, she moved to Colorado and continued her work in real estate. It was in Colorado where Carolyn was introduced to her future husband and her soulmate, Arthur J. Petrie and they were married Jan. 1, 1999. She believed life was a continuation of learning. Carolyn went on to become a commercial real estate broker, licensed in five states, where she and Art were active in business. Carolyn was a progressive person who believed in education and inclusion. She was a nature lover and enjoyed all things beautiful. Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Troy Cox II; and her stepfather, Jack Griggs. She is survived by her mother, Jean Cox Griggs; husband, Arthur J. Petrie; brothers, Troy Cox (Nora), Ryan Cox (Priscilla) and Leland Cox (Andrea); sisters, Jeannine Barry (Vince) and Ellen Ann Cox (Jesse); former husband, Mike Wise (Crystal); son, Jason Wise (Melissa); stepdaughters, Kathleen Petrie (Mark Bowden), Susan Michaletz, Cindy Sherman (Jerry), Paula Baker (Charlie); stepsons, Arthur Petrie III and Mitchell Petrie (Kristin); grandchildren, Blake Wise, Julia Wise, Paula Wilson, Emma Lane, Elizabeth Petrie-Smith, Amy and Anna Michaletz, Dan Sherman, Joe Sherman, Alice Baker, Braden Petrie, Grace Petrie, Theo Petrie, Aaron Petrie and Will Petrie; nieces, Elissa Sargent, Malia Nobrega, Anna Cox, Jen Li Berry, Aris Hailey, Lindsey McDermid and Corey Gallagher; nephew, Tyler Cox; great-grandchildren, Haley Jane and Burke Wilson; many nieces and nephews through marriage; and many close and special friends around the country. Carolyn loved her family and friends with all her heart, and was a positive force in all their lives.
