Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church for Carolyn "Carol" Ann O'Barr Dean, 70, of Gadsden. Mrs. Dean passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017. The Revs. Jerry Headrick and Daniel Barkley will officiate. Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home & Cemetery is in charge of the services. Carol graduated in 1965 from St. Clair County High School and began her career in the business side of the medical profession at the age of 18. She worked at University Hospital and Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham. In Gadsden, she worked with several family practice doctors and then over 25 years with Dr. Roger Suttle Jr. She was active in her church and loved working with the youth. Carol gave of herself in many ways, including working with Habitat for Humanity and United Way. She loved spending time with her friends and family and adored her five grandchildren. Carol loved to travel and made trips to Thailand, China, Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Canada and Alaska. Carol especially loved being at the beach in Destin. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lucy O'Barr, and granddaughter, Sweet Pea. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Richard Dean; son, Jason (Terri Jo) Dean; daughter, Leigh Ann Dean (Jeff) Rains; grandchildren, Hannah, Noah and Zach Rains, Jackson Martin and Preston Dean; brother, Milton (Eleanor) Isbell; nephew, Tim (Elaine) Isbell; niece, Susan (Danny) Burns; special friends, Becky and Robert Sosebee; and a host of close friends. Special thanks to Dr. Maury Minton and to Southern Care Hospice and Compassionate Comforters especially Kim.
