Carolyn Dahm Mary Carolyn Dahm, nee Thurgood, 90, of Belleville, Ill., born July 3, 1926 in Vincennes, Ind., died Jan. 9, 2017, at Dammert Geriatric Center in Belleville, Ill. Carolyn graduated from East St. Louis High School and worked for many years as a lab technician at Mallinckrodt Chemical Works in St. Louis. She retired in 1988. In 1962, Carolyn married Edward Dahm, a widower since 1957. She quickly became the beloved mother of his three children: Doug (Sharon) Dahm, Marsha Dahm and Don Dahm. Carolyn loved golf, walking, bicycling, her dog Richie, and interacting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A woman of faith, kindness, and character, she belonged to the Signal Hill United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women's Club, the Wednesday Night Yorktown Golf League, the Belleville Professional Women association, and a variety of informal breakfast and social groups. Most recently, she served as President of the Dammert Geriatric Center Residents' Council. She and Ed enjoyed their winter stays in Florida. A lifetime avid Cardinal fan, she truly loved those Redbirds. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Olive Thurgood, and in 2011, her husband of 49 years, Edward. Carolyn is survived by her children, Doug (Sharon), Marsha and Don; three grandchildren, Matt (Rachel) Dahm of Wheelersburg, Ohio, Andrew Dahm of Millstadt, Ill. and Jennifer (Clark) Peterson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Evan, Owen, Will and Wyatt; a brother, Bob (Sharon) Thurgood of Belleville, Ill.; a sister, Linda (Richard) Tribout of Bonne Terre, Mo. and their sons Scott and Jeff. The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to the staff and residents of Dammert Geriatric Center, all of whom made Carolyn's last years so enjoyable and comfortable.
