Carol Jean Phelon Chrisman Vermillion, 81, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016, at her home. Carol was born January 25, 1935, in Topeka, the daughter of Howard and Opal Ruby Aldridge Phelon. She was raised by her grandparents, Olive and Clyde Phelon near Lyndon KS. Carol graduated from Lyndon High School. She was married to Vernon Chrisman and together they raised a family. He preceded her in death. Carol graduated from Newman School of Nursing in Emporia. Later in life, Carol married Jack Vermillion. He preceded her in death. Carol loved working as a registered nurse, helping new mothers and babies. Bringing her the most joy were traveling, quilting (belonging to many quilting guilds), flowers, piano and square dancing. Most of all she loved her family. Survivors include her daughters, Jenny Riley (Ed), Cindy Chrisman-Smith (Brian) and Nancy Henderson (Dan); grandchildren, Max, Mandi, Alex and Nick; and great-granddaugther, Ruby. Carol was also preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly Ruby Halverson. Carol felt very blessed to have been able to live out her life in her home and was very thankful for her loving caregivers. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of her life Thursday, October 20th from 3-6 p.m., at her home.
