Cayan, Carol 12/23/1921 - 9/30/2016 Muskegon Mrs. Carol Cayan, 94, passed away September 30, 2016 in Lakeside, California, after a short illness. Carol Joyce Washam was born in Jackson County, Ohio in 1921 where she spent her early years on the family farm. She moved to western Michigan after high school, where she gained employment and completed a business school program. Working as a stenographer at the Continental Motors Engineering Department in Muskegon, she met engineering designer William P Cayan. Carol and Bill married in 1944 and shared lives together until Bill died in 1991. Over the years, they designed, built and lived in four homes in the Muskegon area. Carol was a devoted wife and mother, was an active PTA member and volunteered as an election worker. She loved her home in the western Michigan woods, gardening, birds and wildlife, and watching the change of seasons. Carol was known for her sewing creations, scrumptious fried chicken and delicious apple pie. She will be greatly missed. Carol is survived by son William and daughter-in-law Johnnie of Richmond Texas, grandson Joel and family of Houston Texas, son Daniel and daughter-in-law Susan of Ramona, California, and granddaughter Laura and family of Orinda, California. Carol leaves sister Kathleen Spence of Newberry, Michigan, and brother Richard Washam of Asheville, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by brother Judson Washam and sister Marjorie Dearing. A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm on November 5 at the White Lake Congregational United Church of Christ.
