Carlos Capaz Lavado, 83, of Wallingford, formerly of Meriden, and Sebastian, FL., loving husband for nearly 63 years of Sylvia (Haggerty) Lavado, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Masonicare Health Center. He was born in Mira De Aire, Portugal, the son of Costodio and Maria (Capaz) Lavado. Carlos was a veteran of the US Army. He went on to work in the construction business as a Superintendent for Barr Construction, and VMS Construction. In retirement he worked for Meriden Manufacturing and John's Island Golf Course. In 2000 he bought his dream home in Sebastian, FL where he became a member of St. Sebastian Church and a member of Sebastian Men's Club. Carlos was an avid golfer and a member of Hunter's Golf Club. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and dancing with the love of his life. When his beloved Sylvia started to show early signs of Alzheimer's Disease eight years ago, Carlos took on the challenge of being her devoted caretaker, always putting her needs first. Besides his wife, Carlos leaves behind a son, David Lavado and his wife Julie of Wallingford; two daughters, Rosemarie Fleming and her husband Joseph of Pfafftown, NC and Susan Kunst and her husband Erich of Meriden; a brother, Manuel Lavado and his wife Lidia of Cromwell; six grandchildren, Jennifer Shew and her husband Joseph, Allyson Wall and her husband Richard, Robert Lavado and his wife Sara, Stephanie Lavado- Berghorn and her husband Kevin, Blake Kunst, and Garrison Kunst, three great grandchildren Ella, Alexis, and Hudson, and one he was anxiously awaiting. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by a sister who died in infancy, Maria Capaz Querido. The Lavado family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of 6 Ramage for their compassionate and professional care, A funeral service will be held on Thursday (October 20, 2016) at 11 AM in the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 9:30 to 11 AM just prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations in Carlos' memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 48, Southington, CT 06489.
