Calvin F. Smith
HAMPTON - Calvin F. Smith 79, of Hampton, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk Virginia after battling a long illness. He was born on October 25, 1937 in Baltimore, MD to Leroy Smith and Mary Smith (Williams). He attended Baltimore public schools where he excelled in math, English, Spanish and music. On June 24, 1961 at Sharon Baptist Church, Baltimore, MD He married Dorothy Mae Glenn; they remained married for 53 years until her death in Sep 2014. He was a devoted family man and a strong presence in his Church community. He served on various boards and organizations. Calvin was a Veteran of the United States Armed Forces serving in the Air Force where he obtained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (E8). His distinguished military career spanned 28 years. After military service he joined the NASA security force retiring after 20 years of service in 2004. Upon retirement he served as a Volunteer at the Hampton Veterans Affairs Medical Center He leaves to cherish his memories his brothers Carroll Smith & Raymond Rideout, son Gregory G. Smith Sr. (Genida), daughter Janine Y. Maness (Kevin Sr.), grandchildren Gregory G. Smith Jr. (Elektra), Denise Y. Smith, Kevin M. Maness Jr, Ricky R. Hunt, Aaron M. Cofield, Ebony S. Cofield, great-grandchildren Shawnise M. Smith, Jeremiah T. Smith, Laila A. Cofield. & Kori Cofield other in-laws, nephews, nieces, and cousins. The family will receive visitors beginning Friday February 17, 2017 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the home of Calvin F. Smith (send flowers and donations here). Arrangements have been entrusted to Ronald C. Perkins Funeral Home, 251 W. Queen Street, Hampton, VA 23669 where there will be a public viewing on February 17, 2017 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The going home celebration will be held at St James United Methodist Church at 1533 W. Queen Street, Hampton VA 23669 February 18, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Doris Madison will be officiating. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
