Butler McDowell Jr.
Butler McDowell, Jr., died Oct. 6, 2016. He was born June 9, 1934, in Rome, Georgia, to the late Butler McDowell, Sr., and Bessie Fennell McDowell. Preceding him in death were: siblings John Lewis McDowell, Clarence Dean, Forrest McDowell, Mattie Fair; in-laws Julia Jackson Edwards, Amos Jackson, Ammon Jackson, Willie Mae Wood; children Lillian Boyd, Michael Murray McDowell, Dean Butler McDowell. While living in South Carolina as a young man, he worked the farm to help his father provide for the family. He moved to St. Augustine, Florida, where he met his beautiful wife, Marilyn. They moved together to East Orange, New Jersey. There he worked for General Motor Company. They then returned to St. Augustine, where they raised their children. Butler leaves to cherish his memory: children Walter James McDowell, Treisha M. Brown, Tyronna Pitts Battle, Deirdra L. McDowell-Sutton (U. Lorenzo); and a host of loving nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; siblings Ellen Alexander, Walter H. McDowell (Linder), Lena Faye Glenn, Shirley Davis (James), Frankie Rice, Beatrice Collins (Augustus), Lois Dean, Clarence Collins; in-laws Julius Jackson (Lois), Rhonda Stevens, Freddie Jackson. Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Tabernacle MB Church, the Rev. Richard Madison, Sr., pastor. Calling hours: 5-7 p.m. on Friday and from 1 p.m. until service hour on Saturday at the church. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery. Leo C. Chase & Son Funeral Home entrusted with the services.
