In memory of
retired Captain of the Allentown Police Department, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2016 at the age of 87, surrounded by family. He was the husband of Theresa (Zalai) Zorn, married 67 years. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Henry and Margaret (Koehler) Zorn. After graduating from Allentown High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served with the Occupational Forces in Germany from 1946-1947. Burk played the violin with the 314th Special Service Band of the European Theater. The band put on a music and variety show ("It's All Yours") which was broadcast by American Forces Network. The band toured throughout the U.S. Zone and Berlin to entertain the troops. Burk worked with his father at Zorn's Market, also at Bethlehem Steel, and Argeson's Greenhouse. He was appointed to the Allentown Police Department in 1954, promoted to Sergeant in 1969, Lieutenant in 1973, and Captain in 1984. He retired in 1987 after serving 33 years. Burk was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Whitehall. He was an avid accordion player in the Sauerkraut Band.
