Bruce W. Mueller
WESTGATE - Bruce W. Mueller, 67, of Westgate, entered Heaven on Thursday morning, Feb. 9, 2017 at his home after a short battle of fibrosis of the lungs and congestive heart failure. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at the Raymond United Methodist Church in Raymond, with the Rev. Linda Miller and the Rev. Jena Manchester officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the Messerer-Fox American Legion Post 92 of Westgate. Inurnment will be at a later date. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church. The family requests that those attending the service wear casual clothing. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Westgate Library, Messer-Fox American Legion Post #92 of Westgate or the Raymond United Methodist Church. Online obituary at: www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Bruce was born Dec. 21, 1949 to Elsworth and Darlene Burrows Mueller in Waterloo Iowa. He grew up in Dewar, Iowa and graduated from Dunkerton High School in 1968. Bruce went to Hawkeye Tech Community College graduating in 1970 with an AA degree in electronics. During the summers he worked for many Dewar farmers, milking and making hay and for John G. Miller Construction. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Karlen Kae Finch on April 10, 1970 at Raymond United Methodist Church. Bruce was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era where he served as an electronics tech and an instructor before being honorably discharged in 1978. While in the Army he repaired electronics for the Police and Highway Patrol. He also served in the Army Specialty Activity Detachment. During his marriage to Karlen, God blessed them with two children, Song Ann Mueller and Brian Allen Mueller. Song was adopted while Bruce served in the Army in Korea. They also consider Chris (Jennifer) Hauser and Scott (Shana) Mallinger their children. Bruce went on to work at John Deere in Waterloo as an electrician for 36 years retiring in 2015. After retirement, Bruce served as a city councilman for the city of Westgate and helped with snow removal within the city. In October of 2016, they were blessed with the birth of their grandson, Parker Mueller, who had grandpa Bruce wrapped around his little finger. During Bruce's life, he did woodworking, trained dogs, hunted pheasant and rabbit, reloaded his own shells and bullets, shot trap, fished with his dad, brothers and grandchildren. He gave of his time in mowing at the Cedar Falls Gun Club, remodeling the Dewar Community Hall, playing Santa Claus, helping with New Hartford Cub Scouts and sponsoring the Cedar Falls Youth Shooting Club. He was a member of the Raymond United Methodist Church, New Hartford American Legion and Messer-Fox American Legion Post 92 of Westgate. Bruce is survived by his loving wife of almost 47 years Karlen Kae Mueller of Westgate; children, Song Ann Mueller of San Francisco, California, Brian (fiancée Annette) Mueller of Oelwein, Chris (Jennifer) Hauser of Aplington and Scott (Shana) Mallinger of Cedar Falls; grandchildren, Parker Mueller and Kaitlyn Roethler, Taylor, Olivia and Alexis Hauser and Tanner, Kennedi and Blake Mallinger; 2 brothers, Steve (Liz) Mueller of Denver and Gail (Robin) Mueller of Waterloo; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Rad (Joyce) Finch of Marion, Darren (Lisa) Finch of Cedar Rapids, Chris (Ronda) Finch of St. James, Mo.; Tracy (Lisa) Finch of Whitleyville, Tenn., and Jena (Kirk) Manchester of Mapleton; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Elsworth and Darlene Mueller, and parents-in-law Dick and Elaine Finch.
