Mr. Bruce McLaughlin
Mr. Bruce McLaughlin, 92, of Buchanan Trail East, Waynesboro, went to his eternal home, Monday, October 17, 2016, in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born September 19, 1924 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Bruce McLaughlin, Sr. and Emza (Rock) McLaughlin Cover. Mr. McLaughlin served with the United States Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater as a transportation specialist. He and his wife, the late June (Lambert) "Chick" McLaughlin, were married on August 1, 1946 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro. They moved to Buchanan Trail East in 1992. Mrs. McLaughlin died on March 25, 2002. Following his discharge from the military, Mr. McLaughlin operated the Gulf Station on Main Street and sold cars at Sollenberger's. He purchased the Gulf Station in 1950 and in 1954 he entered into the business of selling heating oil. In 1957 he moved McLaughlin's Oil to its present location, establishing the business office there in 1965. He was a life member of the Waynesboro Fish and Game Association, Potomac Fish and Game Association, Williamsport, MD, Blue Ridge Sportsman's Association, Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15, and Mechanics Steam Fire Engine and Hose Company, Waynesboro. He was a member of the former B.P.O. Elks Lodge #731, where he had been a member since 1950 and the National AARP. Mr. McLaughlin enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, and raising his boxer dogs. He is survived by three sons, Jeffrey L. McLaughlin and his wife, Susan of Fairfield, PA, Vaughn E. McLaughlin and his companion, Phanee of Rouzerville and Mark L. McLaughlin and his wife, Patti of Rouzerville; 7 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Ralph Cover and one sister, Helen Hanshaw. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, October 20, 2016, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Pastor Jay Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, where military graveside honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday evening, in the funeral home.
