Bruce Stephen Batistig, 67, of Burrell Township passed away on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at the VA Hospital, Oakland. Born on June 16, 1949, in Indiana, Pa., he was a son of the late David G. and Margaret M. (Condron) Batistig. Bruce served our country during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army and was a war history buff. He live in Burrell Township most of his life, was a 1969 graduate of Apollo High School and member of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Apollo. Bruce was part owner and operator of Darmac Coal Company for several years. He also owned a rental plaza in Delmont which included a laundromat which he operated for many years. A happy guy he was always singing or whistling. He enjoyed hunting and loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Shannon Batistig on June 17, 2003, and his best buddy Beast. Survivors include his son, Nathan Batistig of Burrell Township, daughter, Ashlee (Stephen) Krum of Homer City; grandchildren, Mason and Sophia Krum; fiancé, Mimi Dunmire of Burrell Township; several step grandchildren; brothers, David (Susan) Batistig of Burrell Township and John (Janie Campbell) Batistig of Kiski Township; several nieces and nephews and a special great nephew Lucas. Visitation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 14th from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 100 Owens View Avenue, Apollo. Parting prayers of transfer will be recited at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:30 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial in St. James Roman Catholic Church, Apollo with Father Thomas More-Sikora, celebrant. Entombment will be in Iselin Cemetery, Iselin where full military honors will be accorded by the Armstrong County Honor Guard.
