GARVIN, Brenda 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 15th in Houston. Born March 7th, 1931 Boston, MA to Andrew J. and Gertrude Gorey. A 1954 graduate of Lesley College, MA, Brenda began her career teaching elementary school, marrying Joseph P. Garvin in 1955. The Garvins lived in Massachusetts, Ohio, and California before returning to Brecksville, Ohio, where they made their home for nearly 50 years, raising five children. In Brecksville, Brenda was a bridge enthusiast and served as a member of the Christ Child Society, the St. Francis Mission, Brecksville Women's Club, and as a volunteer at Parma Hospital, enjoying in all these activities the company of many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph of 58 years, daughter Cornelia, parents, and brothers Andrew and Kevin Gorey. She is survived by daughters Elisabeth (Thomas Weinandy) of Greenville, SC, Kate (Peter Ryther) of Houston, TX, Emily (Lisa Nagel) of Annapolis, MD, Matthew (Chaka) of Austin, TX, seven grandchildren, brother Robert Gorey and sister Marcia Paiva, and many nieces and nephews. The family extends a warm thank you to her compassionate caregiver, Schonda "Cookie" Altius. Donations in her name can be made to the Covenant House of Texas, 1111 Lovett Blvd, Houston, TX 77006, a non-profit charity supporting homeless youth. A private interment will take place in Brecksville, Ohio.
