Brenda Kay Nelson Combs, 56, of Greensboro, N.C., passed away Sept. 7, 2016, in Greensboro. Brenda was born Jan. 16, 1960, in Rochester, to Robert and Pauline (Engel) Nelson, of Stewartville. The family moved to North Carolina in 1961. Brenda grew up in Morganton, N.C., graduated from Freedom High School in Morganton in 1978 and attended Rockingham County Community College. She worked in various jobs and then moved to Greensboro, where she met her husband, Timothy Combs. They were married June 25, 1983, in Morganton. Their son, Spencer, was born Sept. 6, 1989. They made their home in Greensboro, where Brenda continued to work until shortly before she was diagnosed with brain cancer 4 1/2 years ago. She loved everyone she was associated with, enjoyed her many friendships and time spent with family. Brenda's favorite color was purple. Brenda was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline (Engel Nelson) Csercsevits. She is survived by her husband, Tim, and son, Spencer, in Greensboro; father, Bob Nelson, of Virginia; and aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. A burial service for her ashes will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Cemetery in East St. Olaf, Minn. All are welcome.
