FORT WAYNE — Bonnie Eileen Sherer, 90, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 at home in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Harley and Clara (Porter) Bishop on July 29, 1926. She was married to Robert A. Sherer on July 31, 1977, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Bonnie worked as the secretary of the union with Magavox for 28 years, retiring in 1986. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and Brazilian embroidery. Many of her works were displayed at the Allen County Public Library. Surviving are her daughter, Rene (Rick) Filkens of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandchildren Luanna (John) Cunningham of Auburn, Indiana, Laurie Johnston of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Heather (Kerry) Foster of Albion, Indiana, Matthew (Bekah) Brooks of Bluffton, Indiana, Hollie (Rob) Sutton of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Nicolas Filkens; stepsons Larry (Deb) Sherer of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Tom (Sue) Sherer of Kendallville, Indiana, Roger Sherer of Bluffton, Indiana, and Robert Sherer of Los Angeles, California; step-grandchildren Laura Tallent of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Lisa Laur of Avilla, Indiana, Jennifer (Tracy) Long of Zionsville, Indiana, Patricia (Luke) Scheidler of Zionsville, Indiana, Megan (Jay) Richards of Ruskin, Florida, and Nicholas Allen of Austin, Texas; 15 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Harley and Clara Bishop; husband Robert Sherer; daughter Penne Brooks; son Lanny Fry; grandson David Fry; and stepdaughter Janet Allen. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2017, at Sweet Church, 3015 East 415 North, Albion, Indiana, with calling one hour prior. Rev. Tim Grable will officiate. Calling will also be Sunday, January 15, 2017, from 2-5 p.m. at D. O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Sweet Cemetery, Albion, Indiana. Memorials may be made to the Sweet Church Organization of Albion, Indiana.
