DUNLAP — Bobby Joe Johnson, 87, passed awau Oct. 13, 2016, at his home in Dunlap, Tenn. He was born on Dec. 12, 1928, to Homer T. and Amy Johnson. Bobby Joe grew up in Dunlap, and was a member of Dunlap First Baptist Church. He was a skilled Carpenter for Siskin Brothers, for years before he went to work at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He worked for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, for 41 years, from 1973 to 2014, when he retired. He was the superintendent of maintenance at UTC. Bobby Joe married Vicki J. Johnson in 1978, in Rossville, Ga. They were happily married for 38 years. Bobby Joe enjoyed bowling, carpentry, and gardening. Bobby Joe is survived by his spouse, Vicki J., of Dunlap; his children, Brenda Layne (Dude), of Dunlap, Darrell Johnson, of Dunlap, Dana Black, of Valdosta, Ga., Kathy Waters (Clifford), of Athens, and Andy Borup (Trudy,) of Dayton; his sister, Mabel Mabrym of Cookville; grandchildren are, Kelly Pryor(Sarah), Mark Pryor(Lisa), Chad Johnson, Casey Johson, Katie Black, Charlotte Black, Jessica Waters Garcia, Lauren Forgey (Adam), and Gerald Waters. Bobby Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Homer T. and Amy Johnson; and his daughter, Cindy. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. CDT Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, in the Ewton Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Tom Gholston and Bro. Clifford Waters officiating. Burial will follow at Rankin Cemetery.
