Bobby Keith Cox, 87, of St. Elmo, passed away at 7:50 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in St. Elmo, with the Rev. Dan Laack officiating and a one-hour viewing prior to services. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday at C&A Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo. Burial was in Cisne Cemetery in Cisne. Mr. Cox was born on Jan. 30, 1930, in Healdton, Okla., son of Leonard L. and Gertrude "Trudy" (Tipton) Cox. He married Catherine Jean "Jeanne" Barth on May 30, 1953. She preceded him in death. He was a founding member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity at Eastern Illinois University. He loved drama and directed more than 30 plays. He earned a lifetime achievement award from FACE. He was a choir director at First United Methodist Church of St. Elmo, and was also the band and choir director for St. Elmo Schools. He is survived by his sons, Keith Cox and his wife Cheryl of Cisne, and Kevin Cox and his wife Kara of Watson; sister, Judy Gillaspie of St. Elmo; grandchildren, Jacob Cox and his wife Mary, Kati Cox, Andrew Cox, and Anna Cox-Tiffany and her husband Chris; and great-grandchildren, Samuel and Alana Cox. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
