Bob, 77, of Longmont died peacefully in his sleep after a fight with cancer and pneumonia. Bob was born in Central City, Nebraska to Fern and Jim Hartford. He was the second youngest of six children. He and his family moved from Nebraska to California then to Oregon where the family lived on a farm raising chickens and pigs. In the spring of his junior year of high school, he started dating his soul mate, Sandy Gentry. They married December 20th, 1958 and raised 2 children; a daughter Terri, born November 6th, 1959 and a son, Rob, born July 28th, 1961. They lived in the Eugene, Oregon area when Bob became a journeyman electrician and began working on many large jobs in the area. In 1971 Bob, Sandy and children moved to Parker, South Dakota where he continued his career as an electrician. The following year they moved to Longmont and he eventually started his own business, Hartford Electric, Inc. He loved having his own business for over 40 years and worked long and tiring days until he became ill in September 2016. He had no desire to retire but did enjoy the time spent with family and friends. After the kids finished their rodeo years. Bob began team roping with his wife and friends here in his own area and others in the community. He loved the sport and did well until a shoulder injury prevented him from continuing. Bob and Sandy then took up trail riding and spent many, many days camping in his "Holiday Inn on wheels" and riding the trails in this beautiful state. He often said that sitting on his horse with a cup of coffee was almost heaven. He also loved his small farm where he kept his horse, grew hay and raised cattle. His dog. Squirt, went to work with him every day and was by his side until the very end. He is survived by his wife, Sandy, daughter Terri who lives in Arlington, Washington and son Rob who lives in Longmont and worked with Bob for many years. There are 5 grandchildren, Krista Baker who lives in Longmont and Arizona; Jessi Hartford who lives in Longmont; Jordyn Mueller, lives in Arlington, Washington, Jason Mueller who lives in Everett, Washington and Colton Hartford who lives in Longmont. He also has 2 living sisters, Bonnie and Barbara, and many nieces and nephews. His life will be celebrated by family and friends on Saturday, January 14th from 2:00-5:00 PM at his home.
