Billy Lee Perry was born March 5, 1930, in Broken Arrow and died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, in Monroe, La. He was the son of Milton and Mamie Perry. Bill graduated from high school in Broken Arrow, where he would return to teach speech and debate after attending Northeastern State at Tahlequah. Bill received a doctor's degree from the University of Oklahoma at Norman. He taught at Northern Colorado University at Greely before moving in 1971 to Northeastern State College at Monroe. He was a professor and director of educational media for 28 years. After retiring from the university, he worked as a consultant for Pearson Publishing Co. He was active in the Downtown Lions Club, where he served on local and state offices. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeweldeen Richardson Perry; their two sons, Timothy Richardson Perry and wife Jody and Rob Perry and wife Kelli; five grandchildren, Tommy Perry and wife Angie, Katie Phillips and husband Johnny, Ali Perry, Stevie and Drew Perry; four great-grandchildren, Jo Anna and Jude Perry, Julianna and Eva Phillips. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home of Poteau at the Richardson family plot in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Saturday the funeral home.
