Bill Alexander Jr.
IRONDALE - Bill Alexander Jr., age 96, of Irondale, passed away on October 12, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mable Cobb Alexander and son, William Michael ""Mike"" Alexander. He was born on March 16, 1920. He attended Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas in 1942. He was inducted into the Army Air Corps in 1942, where he was made Chief Clerk. He was permanently stationed in Biloxi, Miss. until the war in Europe was over. He was later sent to Illinois to radio operator mechanic's school. He graduated in July 1945, and he was scheduled to go to the south Pacific but in August 1945 he returned home after the war ended. He married Mable Cobb on November 8, 1941. He later retired after 30 years of service from Alabama Power Company. They loved to travel in his motor home throughout the country. They played and sang in the Dulcimer Clubs in Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi and Texas. In early 2000, Mable was afflicted with Alzheimer's. He cared for her at home for four years until she died in January 2005. He is survived by his son, Charles Alexander; daughter-in-law, Nancy Alexander; grandchildren, Melissa Beebe (Marty), Rebecca Mize and Corey Alexander (Michelle); great-grandchildren, Alex and Laura Gail Beebe, Zoe Mize, Kaity and Cavan Alexander. His family will receive friends Saturday, October 15, 2016, from 12 noon – 1:00 p.m., at Ridout's Trussville Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. The family requests all attendants to wear his favorite color red. Burial will be in Walker Memory Gardens in Jasper, Ala.
