Betty Elaine Hancock, 92, of Indian Head, MD, died January 7, 2017 at Fort Washington Medical Center. Born on Jan. 8, 1924 in Indian Head, she was one of seven children of the late George A. Totten and the late Agnes Martina Waple Totten. She resided in Indian Head continuously since 1946. On July 21, 1944, she was married to Cicero Hancock at Holy Ghost Church in Issue. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary shortly before Cicero's death on Sept. 29, 2004. Mrs. Hancock was a master seamstress and needlework artisan. She was proud of the fact that she made much of her clothing until not long before her death. She was an expert at counted cross stitch and quilting and leaves many pieces of art for her family to admire in the years to come. Mrs. Hancock is survived by her children: Martina H. Hayden and John A. Hancock; daughter-in-law, Teresa (Terri) L. Hancock; son-in-law, Thomas C. Hayden Jr.; grandchildren: Leigh Ann Dye, Lance Hancock Hayden, and Faith Hayden Garber; and great grandchildren: Thomas Edward Hayden and Vanessa June Hayden. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, January 13 at St. Ignatius Church Chapel Point, with Rev. Thomas F. Clifford, S.J. officiating. Interment took place at St. Ignatius Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were John A. Hancock, Lance H. Hayden, Steven M. Reese, James T. Garber, Joseph M. Abell, and Thomas C.
