Betty Clotilde Tolbert Gates Mrs. Betty Clotilde Tolbert Gates, 86, passed from this earth on April 1, 2017 after a lengthy illness. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening, April 19th, at St. Clements Catholic Church in Vivian, Louisiana. Chloe was born in Belcher, Louisiana on June 7, 1930, to Doty Earl Tolbert and Julia Marie Plaisance. She grew up in a family of eleven children. As a teenager, Chloe joined the Order of Saint Benedict, where Chloe served as a nun for eight years at St. Gertrudes' convent in Covington, Louisiana. Chloe was an extremely talented seamstress. She enjoyed crocheting and gave away many of her beautiful creations to friends and relatives. Chloe was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charlie Gates and her daughter, Ann Garcia. Also preceding her in death are siblings Louis Tolbert, Jim Tolbert, Percy Tolbert, Joe Tolbert, Toby Tolbert, Nellie Batts, Sister Dorothy Tolbert O.S.B., Sister Innocentia Tolbert O.S.B. and sister, Mary Grace Tolbert O.S.B. She is survived by her grandson, Roman Garcia, her twin sister, Lucille Gates, sister-in-law, Shirley Tolbert, and many nieces, nephews, including her nephew, Rusty Batts, who provided loving care to Aunt Chloe during her last years. Also, left to treasure her memory are her special friends and caregivers, Reba Parker, Kathy Jackson, Edna Pilinski. Chloe donated her body to science for medical research.
