Betty Bridges Babb DUNCAN, SC-- Betty Ruth Bridges Babb, 86, widow of James Henry Babb, died October 18, 2016 at White Oak Manor of Spartanburg. A native of Spartanburg County, daughter of the late Oliver Fletcher and Augusta Ann Safrona Gore Bridges, she was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service and a member of Lyman First Baptist Church, where she was past president of WMU and church hostess for many years. Serving others was her spiritual gift. She was a member and past president of Duncan Ruritan Club. She was also honored as a distinguished citizen of the town of Duncan at their centennial celebration. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca Babb Bevill (Robert) of Easley, Tammy Babb Simpson (Tommy) of Lyman; five grandchildren, Scott Bevill (Eve), Jenna Walker, Leah Garvey (Brandon), Kyle Simpson (Jocelyn) and A.J. Simpson (Brooke); and five great-grandchildren, Jackson Walker, Finn and Marlowe Bevill and Sam and Nate Garvey. Mrs. Babb was predeceased by five brothers, Joe, James, Guy, Horace and Charles Bridges and five sisters, Jessie Edgemon, Lucille Brock, Ruby Mitchell, Lois Murphy and Lila Owensby. Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2016 at First Baptist Church Lyman, conducted by Rev. Jim Carey and Rev. Robert Bevill. Burial will follow in Wood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held 3:00 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Thursday in the entrance of First Baptist Church Lyman. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Lyman Global Missions Offering, 80 Groce Road, Lyman, SC 29365. The family would like to thank the White Oak Manor community for their care and support these past few years. The family is at the home of the daughter, Tammy Simpson.
