In memory of
Beth Anne Villandry M.D.
Beth Anne Villandry, M.D., 48 ROCKPORT, Mass. - After a long and hard-fought battle with cancer, and with her sisters by her side, Beth Anne Villandry, M.D., passed away April 1, 2017, in Costa Rica. A native of Cape Elizabeth and daughter to Dr. Philip J. and Claudette C. Villandry, Beth was born on Nov. 13, 1968, at Langley U.S. Air Force Base, Va. In 1969, the family moved to Cape Elizabeth, where Beth was a 1987 graduate of Cape Elizabeth High School. In 1996 she acquired her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Vermont, and in 2004 Beth earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. As part of her medical training, she was fortunate to have had the opportunity to participate in a Doctors Without Borders program that traveled to Nicaragua. This trip proved to be life changing for Beth. In addition to the medical experience she gained (and offered), the love she acquired for Central America and the impact that its culture and people had upon her remained with her until her passing. Beth was in the midst of completing her residency in internal medicine at Maine Medical Center in Portland when, at the age of 37, her cancer was diagnosed. Despite her diagnosis, Beth offered friends and others significant personal and medical support and will fondly be remembered for how caring and sensitive she was to others' needs. Surfing, the surfing community, and walks with her bulldogs Winston and Ellie were constant threads throughout the management and duration of her illness. Beth also loved cooking, gardening, and feeding her chickens; and she was at her best when playing hostess to and entertaining friends where the laughter that ensued brought her real joy. She will be remembered and very dearly missed by her family and her extended community in Costa Rica and abroad. Beth was predeceased by her mother, Claudette C. Villandry; and her bulldog Ellie. She is survived by her father, Dr. Philip J. Villandry, of Cape Elizabeth; her sisters, Renée M. Villandry of Colchester, Vt.; and Margo R. Villandry, of Portsmouth, N.H.; and her brother, Philip W. Villandry, of Portland. She is also survived by her beloved bulldog and companion, Winston. Her family wishes to thank all those near and far who loved Beth and offered her their support and friendship throughout her life. A ceremony honoring Beth's life was held April 7 in Costa Rica, and a private family ceremony was held April 9 in Maine. A memorial and celebration of Beth's life will be held in Maine for friends, colleagues, peers, extended family, etc., and is currently being planned for later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those wishing to remember and honor Beth to make a donation to donate.doctorswithoutborders.org
