Bertram C. Brown
Bertram C. Brown Nov 7, 1923 - Mar 3, 2017 Bertram Brown, proud San Francisco native and avid Chron reader, passed away March 3rd in his own home. Son of Zella and Ernest Brown, and brother of Del (Doris) and Anita (Tom). Bert marched with Patton's 3rd Army, was awarded the Bronze Star for valor, and returned in 1946 to the City. He and Doris (Ahlgrim) settled in the Sunset District where they raised their kids, and then later moved to the Peninsula: first to Millbrae, and then to Redwood City. Bert used the GI Bill to take classes at Cal before accepting a job in wholesale floor covering with Lake Sales, and then selling industrial hardware with Vogel Sales. After their 50th anniversary, he and Doris moved to Rossmoor in Walnut Creek. He will always be loved by his children Annette (Daniel), Bill (Melissa); grandchildren Amanda (Dave) and David, and also Kendra (Matt), Joshua, and Emma, and their mother Diane; great-grandchildren Ilyra, Connall and Nathaniel; nephews and nieces Sylvia (Brian), Peter (Nanette), Douglas (Helen), Tom (Cherie), Carleen (Robert), Dale, Phil (Cecily), Ken, Carolyn, Trudi (Wim), and Eric (Peggy); and Doris' twin sister Dorothy and her husband Bob Young. Bert dearly loved family gatherings, crosswords, Christian Science, camping, fishing, hunting, the beach, brunch, Dungeness crab, popovers, anything chocolate, Dottie's pecan pie, cribbage with his buddies, the Giants, the Niners, and any Cal sport. The family is very grateful to Hillendale Home Care and Hospice East Bay who gave comfort and company to our whole family when we needed it most. A celebration of Bert's life will take place in May.
