Bernard Beckwith Marco Island, FL Bernard "Bud" Beckwith, of Marco Island, Florida, went home to God on February 11, 2017. Bud had been a resident of Marco Island for 40 years. Bernard was born in Chicago, IL on March 18, 1924 to Bernard and Rose Beckwith. Bud served in the US Navy in WWII in the Pacific Theater and also a member of the VFW. Previously, Bud had resided in Munster, IN where he was a Sales/Marketing Executive with the O'Brien Corporation. In 1986 he retired to Marco Island with his wife Shirley. Bud was an avid tennis player and was active in the sport until a few years ago. He enjoyed golf and had carded 4 aces. The last one a few years ago at Cedar Hammock CC. Bud and his wife Shirley enjoyed boating and were members of the Marco Bay Yacht Club. Bud was an enthusiastic reader of history and mystery novels spending countless hours with his Ereader. He was a knowledgeable and enjoyable conversationalist. Bud and Shirley had formed many long term friendships, many went back to childhood in Chicago. Bernard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley J. Beckwith; his son, Bernard, Jr. "Ben" and companion Katherine Kemp of California; and daughter, Susan Jean Truscott and husband Tom Truscott of Maryland; Many nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, and great great nephews. His brother, William of Aiken, SC, passed in 2015. His family and many friends will greatly miss Bud's bright smile and engaging personality. A private service will be held at the Historic Church of God. He will be interred at the Marco Island Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
