Benedetto "Benny" R. Marchetti of Leominster; 80 LEOMINSTER -- Benedetto "Benny" R. Marchetti, 80, of Leominster, died Tuesday, February 14, 2017 in Clinton Hospital, due to Alzheimers Disease. He was born September 16, 1936, in Leominster, son of the late Enrico and Viola (Perla) Marchetti. Benny worked for the City of Leominster for 35 years as a heavy equipment operator for the D.P.W. He had served in the National Guard for three years. Bens wish was to become a jockey. He trained at Scarborough, Maine. He loved horses and owned many. At local horse shows he received many blue ribbons for jumping horses. Racing pigeons and breeding them was another of Ben's hobbies. He belonged to the local racing club. Snowmobiling was his winter sport and rode all New England states and Yellowstone National Park. He belonged to the Lunenburg and Sterling snowmobile clubs. He was a lifetime member of the Leominster Sportsmens Club and hunted deer in Maine and New Hampshire for many years. Ben spent 30 years at Cape Cod with family during his summers at Airline Mobile Home Park in South Dennis. There he enjoyed boating, biking, clamming and the Dennis beaches. With his wife Ann, he traveled to many National Parks in the country and also many islands outside of the country. Benny is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann (Castriotta) Marchetti, one daughter; Michelle Marchetti of Leominster, one brother; Robert "Bobby" V. Marchetti and his wife Mary of Leominster, two sisters; Shirley Smith and Virginia Valeri and her husband Peter, all of Leominster, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son John Marchetti, and his brother-in-law, Paul Smith. He will be missed by all who knew him. MARCHETTI -- Funeral services for Ben will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 from Wright-Roy Funeral Home, Inc., 109 West St., Leominster, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon, in St. Anna's Church, 199 Lancaster St., Leominster. Burial will follow in St. Leo's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday, February 17th, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
