Beatrice "Bea" Fern Riffel Grice, 89, passed away Thursday morning, January 12, 2017, at the Heritage Community Assisted Living Center in Guymon, Oklahoma, where she had lived since mid-December. She had been a resident of Goodwell, Oklahoma, since January, 1961. Bea was born at Shattuck, Oklahoma, September 22, 1927, to Victor and Pauline (Appel) Riffel; she was the first of four daughters. The Riffel family, engaged mostly in farming interests, particularly custom cutting, moved often, so Bea attended several schools, including various country schools. She went to a different school each of her four years of high school, including Dodge City, KS; Follett, TX; Shattuck and Guymon, OK where she graduated with the Class of 1946. She helped her mother raise her younger sisters and worked at Lucas' Five and Ten in Guymon. Bea married John "Bill" Gale Grice on January 1, 1947, and to this union were born three children: Roxanna "Roxie" Pauline, Rita Gayle and Billy Russell "Rusty." The family moved often, but finally settled in Goodwell, Bill's hometown, in 1961. Resourceful, creative and energetic, Bea was a hard worker and held a variety of jobs in her lifetime. At retirement, she was a flex clerk at the Goodwell Post Office after working there for 20 years. In years past, she taught Sunday School and Bible School at Goodwell Baptist Church, and was a member there for 56 years, until her death. She was well-known among family and friends as an outstanding cook, with many of her signature dishes reflecting her German heritage. She was an accomplished seamstress, producing clothing for all members of her family, including coats and western shirts. Her house was always spotlessly clean and she maintained a lovely yard filled with flowers. She grew, harvested and preserved vegetable gardens each year. She helped Bill raise cattle. The couple raised a close-knit family and hosted family gatherings at their home for holidays, birthdays, anniversaries and many Sunday evenings with Bea cooking for all of them. Bea was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years on May 9, 2007; by her oldest grandson, Kevin Carroll "K.C." Kuykendall on October 16, 2015; by her parents, Victor and Pauline Riffel of Shattuck and by her parents-in-law, Ross and Roxana Grice of Guymon. Surviving her are: daughter Roxie and Dan Hendricks of Pampa, Texas; daughter Rita and Jim Roberts of Guymon; son Rusty and Dabbie Grice of Sulphur, Oklahoma. Surviving grandchildren are Tara Kuykendall, surviving wife of the late K.C. Kuykendall of Wheatridge, Missouri; Danny and Lori Hendricks of Pampa; Sarah (Grice) and Robert Haupt of Norman, Oklahoma; Kelli (Kuykendall) and Tandy Bitner of Wiley, Colorado; and Tech Sergeant John A. Grice of Langley Air Force Base, Langley, Virginia. Further survivors are her sisters, Pearl and Kenneth Sullivan of Branson, Missouri; Darlene Campbell and the late William "Bill" Campbell of Hendersonville, Tennessee; and Glenda and Charles Williams of Burleson, Texas, and their families. Bea will long be remembered by a host of other relatives and friends. Services will be held at Goodwell Baptist Church on Monday, January 16, 2017, at 2:30 p.m., with Charles Williams, the decedent's brother-in-law, officiating, under the direction of Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon. Interment will follow in Goodwell Cemetery. A family dinner will precede the service at the church. The family suggests that memorials in Bea's name be made to Panhandle Area Sheltered Workshop or to Oaks of Mamre.
