BARBARA WONACOTT Barbara Jean Wonacott, 80, of Orland, passed away quietly surrounded by family on April 11, 2017 at the California Park Rehabilitation Center in Chico, California where she most recently resided. Barbara was born in Chowchilla, California on May 27, 1936 to Thabea and George Harbick, the first of five children. As their family moved numerous times over the years, Barbara came to attend many different schools, eventually settling in the San Jose area where she met Clarence R. Wonacott, known by all as "Red" while he was on leave from the Navy. Though their courtship was not a lengthy one, their marriage lasted over 60 years and took them to such places as the Philippine Islands, back to California and the San Jose basin area, Chico, and Orland, where they have resided for more than 44 years. Barbara was dedicated to providing the best home she could for her family. She spent many hours volunteering in her children's classrooms, she served as a Boy Scout Troop Mother, and joined the Order of the Eastern Star so as to be able to serve as Mother Advisory at meetings of the Orland Rainbow Girls. Upon moving to Orland, Barbara added the title rancher to her resume, taking on responsibility for the family farm, bottle feeding calves and raising beef cattle, pigs, and chickens, irrigating, driving tractor, and growing an impressive garden. She loved all animals. And when grandchildren started arriving, she positively adored each of them and cherished every moment she spent with them. While continuing to serve in many capacities within Eastern Star, Barbara also very much enjoyed and held very dear to her heart her many years as a Volunteer at Enloe Med-ical Center, and as a Hospice and Cancer Cen-ter Volunteer through the Enloe Hospice Pro-gram. Barbara enjoyed sewing, knitting, cro-cheting, and reading. Barbara is survived by her husband of 60 years, Clarence "Red" Wonacott, her brothers and sister and their spouses, Donald and Helen Harbick, Gerald and Liv Harbick, Carol Bowyer, and George "Bill" Harbick; her children and their spouses, Richard and Donna Wonacott, Kerry and Carl Henker, and Cassie Wise, eight grandchildren, Paige Henker, Kyle Henker, Amber Wise, Christopher Wise, Scott Wonacott, Charlie Wonacott, Paula and Jeremy Warren, and Craig Henker, and three great-grandchildren, Allyce Warren, Brooklyn Warren, and Poseidon "Posie" Wise, nieces and nephews, and best buddy Maverick. The family of Barbara Wonacott would like to extend our most sincere appreciation to all the staff, doctors, and support personnel at the California Park Rehabi-litation Hospital in Chico for your amazingly loving and compas-sionate care given to Barbara, aka "Momma", during her time there. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Volunteer Organization of Enloe Medical Center, or the Enloe Hospice Program, or to a Shriner's Children's Hospital of your choice. A memorial service for Barbara will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Orland Federated Church, 709 First Street, Orland, CA 95963. Arrangements are being made by F.D. Sweet and Son of Orland (530)865-3349.
