Barbara Whisenant passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, in Grapevine. Celebration of life: 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29 at Keller Point in Keller. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Barbara's memory to the Oklahoma Children's Cancer Association or American Brittany Spaniel Rescue. Barbara was born on Aug. 5, 1950, in Muskogee, Okla. She graduated from U.S. Grant High School in Oklahoma City, Okla., before graduating from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where she met and married Lowery "Larry" Whisenant in August of 1970. Barbara began her career as a teacher for Yukon Public Schools in Yukon, Okla. She continued working as a teacher for Moore Public Schools in Moore, Okla., Damien High School in LaVerne, Calif. and Hilltop Academy in the Austin area before retiring from teaching in 1998. After retiring as a teacher, Barbara and Larry settled in Keller where she started a pet care business, Luv 4 Paws. This business brought her great joy and an opportunity to apply her passionate love for animals. She will be remembered as a caring teacher and a dedicated and giving friend known for her hilarious sense of humor. Most importantly, her family will remember her as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Nothing brought her more joy than attending her children and grandchildren's activities where she was always recognized as their biggest cheerleader. She loved life, her family, her dogs and her friends. She was one of a kind and will be dearly missed by us all. Barbara was preceded in death by her son, Dallas; mother, Ruth Geraldine "Dean" Moore; father, James Carter; and step-father, Jesse Moore. Survivors: Husband, Larry Whisenant of Keller; son, Travis and wife, April, of Paradise; son, Garrett and wife, Jaclyn, of Frisco; grandchildren Abigail, Savannah, Gannon and Whitley; and sister, Janice Maxwell and husband, Jim, of Duncanville.
