Barbara L. (German) Vancil
Barbara L (German) Vancil of Ellensburg, WA passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017. She was born on February 27, 1924 in Ellensburg to Grover and Ruby German. Barbara was raised and lived the majority of her life on the Cooke Ranch in the Fairview District. She and her brother-Kirk, began their schooling by riding horseback to the one-room schoolhouse down the road. She then attended and graduated from Ellensburg High School. Barbara enrolled at Washington State University and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority where she made life long friends. Barbara majored in Home Economics which was evident in the delicious meals she prepared and the house she kept. While at WSU Barbara met an Air Force officer cadet, Arley L. Vancil to whom she was married for 50 years, until he passed away in 1996. After their marriage Barb and Arley returned to the Kitties Valley, living on the family ranch in the Fairview District, where they were dedicated to raising their family. She was a member of Jolly Neighbors, Arvida Club and PEO. Barbara is survived by her children Gary W. Vancil(Linda) of Kona, Hawaii, Kathee A. Rothrock(Dan) of Cashmere, WA, Elizabeth J. Crimp(Keith) of Ellensburg, WA, and Patti Arreola(Ray) of Wapato, WA. She is also survived by her grandchildren Nathan and Tom Rothrock, Randy(Rachel), Matthew, Eric(Denise) Crimp, Anthony Arreola, four great grandchildren and her sister-in-law Beverly German. She was preceded in death by her husband Arley, brother Kirk German and grandson Alex Vancil. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Steward & Williams Tribute Center in Ellensburg, WA. Private family committal will take place prior to the service. The family would like to give a special thank you to Kittitas Valley Community Hospital for their kind and compassionate care given to Mom. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Barbara's name can be made to the IOOF Cemetery or the Diabetes Foundation.
