Barbara Palmer Truitt of Metairie, Louisiana completed her journey on earth on October 15, 2016, surrounded by her family and friends. She passed away due to cancer. Barbara was born in Carbondale, Illinois on August 22, 1932, to Mary Frances Foster and Doyle "Jack" Andrew Palmer. The family, including her siblings, Jack E. Palmer and Mary Lou Vignovich, soon moved to Trenton, Missouri. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings. Barbara graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science, where she met her life-long friend, Georgia Johnson. Through Georgia, she met her husband, Jack E. Truitt, and his friend, Ron P. Johnson, who also was a life-long friend. Barbara married her husband in October of 1957. They soon moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where their son, Jack E. "Bobby" Truitt, was born. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Houston, Texas where their daughter, Amy E. Truitt, was born. In 1970, Barbara and her family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, where they would meet great friends who would later be known as "La Familia." These friends included the Johnsons, the Jennings, the Maniscalcos, and the Nicholsons. These families and their many generations would spend Mardi Gras, Thanksgiving and other holidays together in the joyous company of each other for many years to come. These friendships have endured time and geography. After Barbara divorced her husband, she became a successful real estate agent with Buccola McKenzie Realtors, then later Prudential Real Estate. She managed to provide for herself and her children, Bobby and Amy, who went on to become a lawyer and doctor, respectively, until her retirement. She loved her children dearly and was so proud of their many accomplishments. Barbara was rich in friends, and her friendships were her lifeblood. She was surrounded by friends that would be the envy of anybody - Phyllis Seely, Sherry Vasser, Bebe Maestri and Bonnie Schulz, in addition to her "La Familia" friends and her weekly bridge group. Her friends, all of them, sustained her until the very end and were there for her in her fight against cancer for the last three years. Barbara fought until the very end, and her toughness, grace and tranquility were also displayed until her passing. Barbara is survived by her son, Bobby Truitt of Covington, Louisiana, his wife, Kathy, her grandsons, Jackson D. Truitt, Alfred L. Johnson, IV and Daniel J. Johnson, and her daughter, Amy Truitt of Kenner, Louisiana, and her daughter, Olivia F. Edwards; she loved and was so proud of her grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special note of gratitude to Dr. Ka-Yon Tong, who showed great compassion and care in her treatment of Barbara in her battle with cancer, as well as her caregivers, Belma Rico, Anna Rodriguez, and Belinda Calais who were so kind and caring, and those who looked in on her, including Mike and Laurie Fulham.
