Barbara Rae Matthews, 72, of Scenery Hill, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016, in Mansfield, Ohio. Born July 14, 1944, in Canonsburg, she was a daughter of the late August and Wilma Jester Curdie. She was a 1962 graduate of East Washington High School. Over the years, Mrs. Matthews worked at Baskin-Robbins and H&R Block in Washington and also worked in the accounts receivable department of 84 Lumber for 17 years before retiring. Mrs. Matthews was a lifelong Methodist and very active in Scenery Hill United Methodist Church, where she was a member for more than 52 years. She also served as treasurer and Sunday school and vacation Bible school teacher. She also enjoyed baking cakes and cooking, especially experimenting with recipes. She was very fond of her granddog, Matilda Rose, and her grandcats, Grace, Viking, Moe, Pip and Cupcake. On January 25, 1965, she married Ray W. Matthews of Scenery Hill, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Raye Lynne (Anthony) Teluch, and a son, Kelsey Curtis Matthews, both of Scenery Hill; a sister, Robynne (Gary) Heckman of Eighty Four; brother-in-law Frank Matz of Bentleyville; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews whom she adored. Deceased, in addition to her parents, is a sister, Wilma Matz. Friends and family will be received from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the hour of services, Saturday, October 22, in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville. Interment will follow in Scenery Hill Cemetery.
