Barbara Nell (Howard) Kalanick Evansville, Ind. Barbara Nell (Howard) Kalanick, 87, of Evansville, died on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville. Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, daughter and friend born on April 3, 1929, to William and Evidean (Flowers) Howard. At age 12, she moved to Evansville with her parents and three sisters. She graduated from Central High School, in 1947, and graduated from Lockyear Business College. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for 71 years, where she was a member of the St. Paul's Ladies Guild, the Encouragers and served on the bereavement dinner committee. Barbara married Richard Michael Kalanick on August 8, 1952. She retired from the Airport Authority at Evansville Regional Airport after 30 years of service. She belonged to a monthly bunco club formed 59 years ago with longtime friends of 60 years. Her hobbies included spending time with her family, traveling, playing bingo, reading, watching movies, working in her yard, attending musicals and helping philanthropic organizations including: American Red Cross, Evansville Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society and the March of Dimes. She is survived by her son, Gregory Michael Kalanick, of Evansville; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Kalanick Nicholson and Eric William Nicholson, of Gallatin, Tenn.; three granddaughters, Ashley Elizabeth Nicholson, of Nashville, Tenn., Katlin Michele Nicholson, of St. Augustine, Fla., and Emily Margaret Nicholson, of Gallatin, Tenn.; nieces and nephews, Sharon Glover, Jennifer A. South, both of Evansville, Patty Buchanan Dimmett (Bryan Keith), Angela K. South, both of Newburgh, Dominic Misuraca, of Macomb, Mich., Sunday Misuraca Sudek, of Livonia, Mich., Mary Misuraca Zerr, of North Branch, Mich., and Michael Misuraca and Dorothy Misuraca, both of Roseville, Mich.; and many great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Michael Kalanick, in 1979; parents, William and Evidean (Flowers) Howard; older sister, Doris Jean Fischer; twin-sister, Joyce Ann South; and younger sister, Carolyn Howard Buchanan. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2017, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Chad Eckels, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday from noon until service time at the funeral home.
