"Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden, I will give you rest". Matthew 11:28. Barbara June was called home on October 17, 2016, following complications from surgery. She was surrounded by her loving family singing a few of her favorite hymns. Born July 29, 1934 to Monroe W. Courtney, Sr. and Muriel Vincent Courtney Brown, Barbara was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge and a graduate of University High School. Barbara was a dedicated family historian and genealogist and the family history will live on forever because of her. She was also an accomplished pianist and organist, loved to dance, quilt, garden and read, but most of her enjoyment came from caring for and loving all her nieces and nephews as her own children. Barbara is survived by her brother, Monroe "Will" Courtney and wife Carolyn; nieces, Jill Brakebill and husband Quintin; Julie Walker and husband Mike; and nephew Rodney Durbin. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews from her extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband James A. "Jim" Johnson, her father, mother and stepfather Sidney Brown, and sisters Muriel C. Davis and Thelma C. Triche. Visitation is Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Pine Grove Baptist Church, 21949 LA Hwy 444, Livingston LA 70754 from 11:00 a.m. until funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Paul Taylor officiating.
