Arthur Martin Rettberg
Arthur Martin Rettberg, 101, of East Hartford passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital. He was the beloved husband of 62 years to the late Elizabeth (Bingham) Rettberg. Born in Windsor, CT, he was the son of Arthur M. Rettberg Sr. and Julia (Miller) Rettberg. He graduated from East Hartford High School, class of 1934. He worked as a toolmaker for Royal Typewriter for 42 years and was a part time employee of the Hartford Courant from 1946 - 2001. He was the oldest living member of Troop 1, East Hartford Boy Scouts of America, 1929 - scoutmaster for 37 years. Arthur was also a 32nd degree Mason and Pastmaster of the Orient Lodge #62 in East Hartford and a member of the Sphinx Temple Shriners. He leaves behind his son, Kenneth M. Rettberg, a daughter, Judith Sawyer, granddaughters, Tina Berman, Lisa Whyte, great grandchildren, Amanda Berman, Patrick Whyte, Andrew Berman, Alicia Whyte and his German Shepard, Heidi. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Frederick A., William A., and sister, August S. Rettberg. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 20 at 2:00pm at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park. There will be a calling hour from 1:00-2:00pm, just prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 N.
