In memory of
Arthur B. "Art" Chandler
Arthur B. Chandler (Art) June 26, 1928 - October 5, 2016 Arthur B. Chandler (Art) went to be with his Savior the Lord Jesus Christ on October 5, 2016. Art was born in Shelby, Montana to Olive Ruth Eaker Chandler and Frank James Chandler on June 26, 1928. They later returned to their family home in Sligo, Clarion County, Pennsylvania where Art and his older brother Robert grew up and attended school. In October 1946 Art joined the Army and served mostly in Korea until March 1948. He used his GI bill to attend a Technical School studying Diesel Mechanics and Welding eventually getting a job as a welder at the Bucyrus Erie Plant, manufacturing large machinery. It was while he was there that he met his first wife, Leah Eileen Eaton. They were married in the Methodist Church in Erie, Pennsylvania in February 1957. In 1960 Art came to California to find work and was hired at the C. K. Williams Plant in Victorville which later became Pfizer and is now known as Specialty Minerals Inc. He worked for Pfizer for 20 years at various locations, primarily in Lucerne Valley. Later he worked for Pluess Staufer, now OMYA, and Granite Rock. After retiring from mining he became a truck driver hauling the products he had previously mined. He worked for L.G. Kitchens Transportation and S. S. Hert Trucking, both of Lucerne Valley. Art truly enjoyed his work and made many friends who remain important to him. Art also felt a responsibility to the community and served on the School Board for many years. During his tenure, the Lucerne Valley Elementary School District became the Lucerne Valley Union School District and leading to the addition of the Junior High and High School to the Elementary School. In 1965 he and Leah had a son, Mark a long awaited blessing. Leah passed away in 1974 and Art remarried in 1976 to Donna Rae Hettick. Art loved his family and was a devoted and faithful husband and father. Perhaps the only thing that surpassed his devotion to his family was his devotion to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He attended the United Presbyterian Church in Sligo, Pennsylvania as a child and all through his youth. When they moved to Lucerne Valley they joined the Calvary Bible Church where he was a member for 55 years faithfully serving in every capacity. He cheerfully swept floors, taught a class, ushered or fixed a faucet. He served as Deacon, Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, and Elder. He was known as the person to ask when in doubt as to policy or how a piece of equipment worked. Art faithfully served God, not that he wanted to earn any merit or favors from God, rather he served out of devotion and appreciation for what God did for him by sending Jesus who first died to pay the penalty that was due him for his sins and then rose again to go and prepare a place for him in heaven. We rejoice knowing that Art is now worshiping his Heavenly Father and singing "How Great Thou Art" with all the choirs of heaven. Art will always be remembered as a man of honesty, conviction, dependability, integrity and devotion to God. Art was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Ruth Chandler, his wife Leah, his beloved Aunt Sadie Eaker who cared for him after his mother died, especially during his teen years, his brother, Robert Chandler, his sisters-in-law, Ruth Eaton Jones, and Lorene Hettick Neely. He is survived by his wife Donna Hettick Chandler, his son Mark Chandler, daughter-in-law Mirna, grandchildren Melanie & John Michael, sisters-in-law Lois Silvis Chandler Ouellette, Rachel Eaton Marcinko, Joyce Eaton Ring, Miriam Eaton Gripp, and Carol Hettick Shields as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned to celebrate Art's life. It will be held October 29, 2016 at 10:00 am at Calvary Bible Church in Lucerne Valley, 10099 Crystal Creek Road, Pastor Jim Souza officiating (760-927-0007).
