Anton Tony Asman, 83, of Marlborough, MA and formerly of New Haven, CT died Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at UMASS Medical Center in Worcester. He was born in Decatur, IL and raised in New Haven, CT - the son of the late Robert and Anna (Spaeth) Asman. Tony was a graduate of The Canterbury School in New Milford, CT. He attended Georgetown University where he played soccer and later graduated from Providence College where he was an accomplished pitcher for its baseball team. Tony owned and operated The Executive (Restaurant) in Old Saybrook, CT for several years. He was also a bartender for many years at The Wharf in Madison, CT and at the New Haven Lawn Club. Tony was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Marlborough. He was known around town as Coach Gramps as he was an assistant coach with his son for Marlborough Girls Softball. He also was a spring training coaching assistant for the University of New Haven baseball team. Tony was an easy going, fun loving, loyal friend and an avid sports fan. He wintered in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Tony leaves his son and daughter-in-law, Eric & Amy Asman, with granddaughters, Lizzie & Abby Asman of Marlborough; a stepson, Warren Pratt, and wife, Patty, of Athol; his former wife Joan (Aninger) Hinterseer of Hudson; and dozens of nieces and nephews across the US. He was pre-deceased by five sisters and two brothers. Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 19 from 6-8 p.m. in the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough.
