HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Ansil Edwin Poland, 87, passed away Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, in Huntsville. He was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Roseville, Illinois, to Leonard Albertus and Gladys Marie (Johnson) Poland. Preceding him in death were his parents; six sisters, Stella Poland (Clarence) Markham, Helen Poland (Fred) Matteson, Mickey Poland (Edgar) Allsup, Lois Poland (Loren) Hines, Dorothy Poland (Skeet) Nott, Nina Poland (George) Houlton; and one brother, Bill Poland. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Alyce Lorraine; one daughter, Lizabeth Poland (Mike) Meador; one son, Michael Ansil (Debbie) Poland; three grandchildren, Fletcher Poland, Jennifer Reed Abernathy and Amanda Reed; five great-grandchildren, Tyler Abernathy, Bailey Abernathy, Kara Abernathy, Dallas and Grayson James; and one great-great-grandchild, Maycee Abernathy. Mr. Poland was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Poland's career began at Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg, Illinois, where he met the love of his life, Lorraine, and ended at John Blue Company in Huntsville, where he retired as longtime company president. Mr. Poland, who was known as "Dutch" by most of his family and friends, will be greatly missed by those lives he touched and helped throughout his life. He is in a better place now waiting for us. Visitation was Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at Valhalla Funeral Home. Funeral service began at 1:30 p.m. Interment followed immediately in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
