February 21, 1919 - September 3, 2016 Anne passed away peacefully at home in Cheviot Hills. Anne is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Walter Shanks (July 1990) and by her devoted daughter, Laura H. Kaplan (June 2016). Big sister to Harry Freeman (also deceased), Anne welcomed both Walter and Harry home from WWII Naval service in 1945 & 1946. Anne enjoyed a career in home-making and had a passion for gardening. Her favorite color and scent was lavender. She enjoyed art and trips to Carmel, where she made many happy memories. Small statured and soft spoken, Anne was surprisingly feisty and clear with her intent. Always the model of etiquette and grace, Anne personified the phrase "good things come in small packages." Anne was not a grandma by blood, but took on the role of great-grandma over her cherished Kellen (20) and Michael Christine (17) Ware, whom she watched grow from birth. In Anne's words, "I sure picked a peach of a family." We loved our little Anne and will miss her greatly. After a private sea scattering service, family and friends will celebrate Anne's life on Sunday, October 16 at 3:00 p.m. For more information, please call Marnie Ware at (310) 991-2764.
