Anne Elizabeth Haryn
Anne Elizabeth Haryn Simi Valley, CA Anne E. Haryn passed peacefully at her home of 53 years in Simi Valley on September 7th 2016 at the age of 97 after a lengthy illness with her daughter, Barbara, at her side. Anne was the beloved wife of the late Albert G. Haryn and devoted mother to Jane Eblen, Joan Tobel, the late Arthur Blair, Robert Blair and Barbara Haryn. Anne was blessed with 18 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 16 great great grandchildren and one great great great grandchild for a total of 74 over five generations. Anne was born in 1919 in Detroit Michigan and was raised during the great depression with her twin sister Emily, brother Ernie, brother Arthur, Sister Mary, sister Enid, sister Ellen and sister Muriel. She shared many stories of life during the depression with her parents planting a Victory Garden and the many small sacrifices made to keep the family together. Anne settled in Simi Valley in the 1960's with her husband,Al and raised Art, Robert, and Barbara. Anne was very active in the community and was a member of the Rancho Simi Senior Citizens Club, the Braille low vision support group at the Simi Valley Senior Center. She was a founding member of the Bibical Garden Club at Trinity Lutheran Church in Simi Valley. She helped to create a beautiful garden that is still growing today. She was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxillary and volunteered at the American Veterans home in Sepulveda with her husband, Al. Through the Disabled American Veterans Auxillary she worked to develop the memorial for the Vietnam nursed in Washington D.C. She was a member of the Simi Valley Womens Club for many years and was Women of the Year in 1990-1991. Anne has many occupations in her life. She worked at an ice cream shop in her teens. She worked as at the Willow springs factory in Detroit as a spot welder for the war effort in WWII on the panels for the B-29's. She was an original Rosie the Rivetor. She worked in a department store J.L. Hudsons in the lamp section and could measure a perfect lamp shade. She worked in the Simi Valley School district as a yard duty at Arcane and other elementary schools as a yard duty so she could be home before Art, Robert and Barbara got home from school. She loved working with children as a way to celebrate all her grandchildren that lived in Michigan. Anne with be missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial with burial will be held Oct. 8th at 11am at the First United Methodist Church 400 E. Grand River, Brighton Michigan. A memorial will help in Simi Valley on October the 15th at 11:30am at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church at 280 Royal Ave. Simi Valley CA. A private internment at Pike Cemetary in Embarrass Minnesota in the summer of 2017 at the Haryn Family Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Braille Library in Los Angeles, the St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Simi Valley or the Buena Vista Hospice in Thousand Oaks.
